FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

The choice is yours. Please be comfortable, and choose clothes that make you look your best! Feel free to bring several changes of clothing so you can try at least two or three different "looks". Boys and girls casual like jeans and a top, a dressy feminine dress, "special" outfits - school, sports,or costumes, or cute pajamas etc. In summer shorts or bathing suits or in winter nice coats, scarves, and hats will work for a nice seasonal look. For families, solid mid-tone clothing often works best photographically - very bright colors, big flashy large prints or patterns can be distracting. Dark colors are also fine for a more elegant or formal look. Long sleeves and trousers - especially for the guys - usually look better than short. Try to choose outfits that work well together. Family shots often come out particularly well if you're all wearing similar outfits - everyone in jeans or chinos and blue shirts, for instance. For black and white photos black and white clothing photographs best. Props and Posing- I will be shooting on a plain white or black background; no fancy sets or props. The result is a very "clean" picture that is all about the person, not the background. Please feel free to bring stuff with you that will add to your photographs- sports gear for the boys, colorful little toys, favorite dolls or teddy bears or other stuffed animals for the little kids, etc. My clients are as creative as I am, so please bring some posing ideas with you. Tear out some pages from magazine and show me what you want to look like. Also bring along old photos of you, if they show you in a way that you like. No guarantees, but I'll do my best to recreate similar look, or maybe even improve on it. Many poses are heads and hands shots, and I also usually do some barefoot shots. So clean, well trimmed nails are a must. Neutral nail polish colors, or a color that compliments your outfits and matches your makeup, helps bring it all together. Less jewelry is generally better than more. Very large, flat, or shiny pieces may be so dazzling they distract attention from you, and I want the picture to be about you.
